UMass Women’s Ice Hockey has had a busy schedule this semester! The season has featured three big weekends for the team. Some highlights from these weekends:
For their first trip of the year, UMass Women’s Ice Hockey took a 14 hour bus ride to Michigan to play Michigan State University and Adrian College. The first game of the weekend (and first ACHA D1 game of the year) against Michigan State lived up to its hype: UMass came out on top with a 3-2 win with less than 30 seconds left in overtime. After two games against Adrian College, UMass ended the weekend 1-2.
The first weekend in November, UMass Women’s Ice Hockey hosted their annual showcase, featuring games against the University of Michigan, Liberty University, and Davenport University. UMass had another exciting start to the three game weekend, securing a 3-2 with against the University of Michigan with less than a minute left in overtime. UMass then fell to Liberty University and notched another win against Davenport, ending the weekend 2-1. The weekend also included a High School Showcase, where high school players competed against each other for the opportunity to be seen by coaches of the teams attending the showcase. This year the showcase teams included UMass Amherst, URI, Penn State, Liberty, Davenport and the University of Michigan.
The most recent trip this past weekend started with a 5:05 am flight Friday morning to Chicago. UMass’s opponents this weekend included Robert Morris University, McKendree University, and the University of Minnesota. UMass secured a win against McKendree University, but came up short against RMU and the University of Minnesota, finishing the weekend 1-2.
